Description

This delicious Orange Date Loaf combines the sweetness of dates with the citrusy brightness of fresh oranges.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup pitted and chopped dried dates
  • Zest and juice of 2 fresh oranges
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a standard loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in orange zest, juice, and vanilla.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until just combined. Fold in chopped dates.
  6. Pour batter into the loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cool slightly before glazing with a mixture of powdered sugar and orange juice.
