Description

This rich and creamy chocolate espresso buttercream frosting is perfect for decorating your favorite cakes and cupcakes.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Butter (Unsalted, Room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp Espresso Powder (increase to 2 tbsp for stronger flavor)
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 24 tbsp Milk (Start with 2 tbsp, add more if necessary, preferably whole or 2%, Room temperature)
  • 56 cups Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream butter in a large mixing bowl until it’s light and smooth.
  2. Add cocoa powder, espresso powder, vanilla extract, and 2 tbsp milk. Mix until combined.
  3. Add half the powdered sugar and mix until partially combined.
  4. Add the remaining powdered sugar and additional milk as needed for a pipeable consistency. For those who like a sweeter frosting, you can add 6 cups powdered sugar but may need more milk.
  5. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Fill your piping bags with this icing and decorate your desserts. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, increase espresso powder to 2 tbsp.
  • Add more milk as needed to achieve the desired consistency for piping.
