Description

This comforting split pea soup is loaded with flavor and nutritious ingredients.


Ingredients

  • 16 ounces dried split peas
  • 2 cups diced carrots
  • 2 Russet Potatoes (peeled and diced)
  • 2 cups ham (diced)
  • 2 Tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Celery Seed
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 sprigs fresh Thyme (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 Tablespoon Better than Bouillon (chicken flavored (or more to taste))
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the peas and make sure there aren’t any stones.
  2. Add all ingredients to the crockpot.
  3. Cook in crockpot on low for 8+ hours, or on high for 6.
  4. It’s ready to serve once the peas, carrots, and potatoes are tender and everything reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Remove the Bay leaves and Thyme stems.
  6. Delicious served with extra ham and crunchy bread.

Notes

  • Consider adjusting the seasoning to taste.
  • For a richer flavor, add more diced ham before serving.
