- 16 ounces extra-sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
- 1 cup unsalted butter, very cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2–4 tablespoons ice water, very cold
- Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese, cold butter, flour, fine sea salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough and fit it into a baking dish. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to keep the butter very cold for a flaky texture.
- You can add your favorite herbs or spices for extra flavor.
