Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, very cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 24 tablespoons ice water, very cold
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese, cold butter, flour, fine sea salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add ice water gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough and fit it into a baking dish. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Let cool before serving.
