Description

Delicious savory puff pastry rolls filled with ground meat and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 250g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 50g grated cheese (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preparation:
    – Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
    – Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the Filling:
    – Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    – Sauté the chopped onion and garlic until soft and translucent.
    – Add the ground beef or lamb and cook until browned. Break it apart with a spatula for even cooking.
    – Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
    – Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Puff Pastry:
    – Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Make sure it is a rectangular shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
    – Spread the meat mixture evenly over the puff pastry.
    – Sprinkle grated cheese over the meat if using.
  4. Rolling and Cutting:
    – Starting from one end, roll the pastry tightly into a log shape.
    – Slice the roll into 1-inch wide pieces using a sharp knife.
  5. Baking:
    – Place the slices cut side up on the prepared baking sheet.
    – Brush the tops with beaten egg for a glossy finish.
    – Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  6. Cook:
    – Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add spinach or mushrooms to the meat mixture.
  • Ensure not to overfill the pastry to prevent it from bursting during baking.
  • These rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen. Bake from frozen, adjusting cooking time as necessary.
  • Serve with a side of yogurt or a dipping sauce of choice for added flavor.
