- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 250g ground beef or lamb
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg, beaten
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or thyme
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 50g grated cheese (optional)
- Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preparation:
– Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
– Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Cook the Filling:
– Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
– Sauté the chopped onion and garlic until soft and translucent.
– Add the ground beef or lamb and cook until browned. Break it apart with a spatula for even cooking.
– Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
– Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. - Prepare Puff Pastry:
– Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Make sure it is a rectangular shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
– Spread the meat mixture evenly over the puff pastry.
– Sprinkle grated cheese over the meat if using. - Rolling and Cutting:
– Starting from one end, roll the pastry tightly into a log shape.
– Slice the roll into 1-inch wide pieces using a sharp knife. - Baking:
– Place the slices cut side up on the prepared baking sheet.
– Brush the tops with beaten egg for a glossy finish.
– Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. - Cook:
– Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add spinach or mushrooms to the meat mixture.
- Ensure not to overfill the pastry to prevent it from bursting during baking.
- These rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen. Bake from frozen, adjusting cooking time as necessary.
- Serve with a side of yogurt or a dipping sauce of choice for added flavor.
